WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police say a 50-year-old burglary suspect who was shot by a west Wichita homeowner Tuesday afternoon remains in the hospital.

Officers responded at around 4 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of South Garst, near Maple and the Big Ditch. The 43-year-old homeowner told police that he arrived at the home and entered to find the woman and three male suspects inside.

Capt. Brent Allred said the homeowner fired one shot from a handgun, hitting the woman in the abdomen. The woman fled in a white Ford Focus and the three male suspects took off on foot.

Officers located the woman in the 900 block of South Seneca. Capt. Allred said Wednesday that she remains in critical condition but her injury is not life threatening.

Police are still searching for the three male suspects.

No one was living at the home, but it is for sale, Allred said. There have been multiple burglaries at the home over the last couple of months, and investigators are working to determine Tuesday's burglary and the others are connected.

Anyone with information is asked to call WPD detectives at (316) 268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.

Allred said the DA will determine if any charges will be filed against the homeowner.
