MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police say a situation that prompted a district-wide lock-in of Moundridge schools has been resolved.

The district issued the all-clear just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and said students would be dismissed at the normal time.

The incident happened a few blocks west of the middle and high school buildings. The McPherson County Sheriff's Office says U.S. Marshals went to a home to serve a federal arrest warrant at around noon.

When Marshals arrived, the suspect, a man in his 30s, retreated into the home and barricaded himself inside. They believed he could have been armed with a handgun.

Moundridge police and officers from McPherson and Harvey counties responded to assist. The sheriff's office said the suspect surrendered approximately two hours later. No injuries were reported.

The sheriff's office did not release any additional information about the suspect.

Previous story:

Moundridge schools are under a district-wide lock-in due to a police presence near the middle and high school building.

USD 423 said on Facebook just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that there was a "significant police presence" a few blocks west of the building at 530 Cole Street.

"We are monitoring the situation and will keep you posted," the district's post says. "All students are being kept inside school buildings until further notice."

Students will not be released until the all-clear is given.

A city spokesperson was unable to comment on the police presence.

Moundridge is about 35 miles north of west Wichita.
