HOUSTON (KAKE) -

Houston was already picked to win the AAC and the Cougars got even better on Tuesday.

Former KU guard Quentin Grimes will be eligible to play this season for Houston, the school announced.

Grimes transferred back to his home state after just one season with the Jayhawks.

According to Jeff Goodman, Grimes was granted immediate eligibility because there wasn't a scholarship available for him at KU once he decided to withdraw from the NBA Draft.

Last year Grimes started all 36 games for the Jayhawks. He averaged 8.4 points and 2.5 rebounds. He'll have three years of edibility remaining.

Grimes isn't done playing in the Sunflower State. His Houston Cougars team plays Wichita State in Koch Arena on January 18th.
