Wins for Kansas: Fresh Hope
A faith-based organization in Wichita is serving women who are looking for a fresh start.
"The vast majority of the women that are in Fresh Hope are the victims of domestic abuse, and we help with the job search we help with education remediation. We work with a lot of partners,” says Fresh Hope director, Connie Heidebrecht.
Started in 2013 at Central Christian Church, it's a program they say is for women ready to work harder than they've ever worked, but may need a little help getting started.
"It's just a matter of women, highly motivated women, needing a hand up rather than a hand out. Women who wanted to do it themselves, needed some tools, needed some knowledge,” says Heidebrecht.
And along the way, they're helping to change the views about who is in need of help in the community.
"It's the same across every racial line, it's the same across every socioeconomic line. It doesn't always have to get violent and it doesn't even have to get loud. But if there is control and isolation, if your life is being diminished, that's a problem. And it's a problem sometimes you can't get out of on your own."
To help with their mission, KAKE TV and our partners, DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to them as this week's, “Wins for Kansas.”
