Man dead in southeast Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A man is dead following a shooting outside a home in southeast Wichita.

It happened around 4 a.m. Friday in the 4400 block of East Bayley Street, near Lincoln and Oliver. Officers arrived on scene and found shell casings on the ground. The victim had been taken to a local hospital by private vehicle.

Wichita Police Sgt. Danny Brown says the 40-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. He suffered from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Police spokesperson Charley Davidson said the victim and a 42-year-old man went to the home and a fight broke out. During the altercation, a shot was fired and struck the victim. 

The victim's name has not been released, and no arrests have been announced.
