2 dead after car crashes into semi on Kansas highway

FLORENCE, Kan. (KAKE) -

Two people are dead after their car collided with a tractor-trailer on a highway in central Kansas.

It happened just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Route 50 near Florence in Marion County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Dodge minivan was heading westbound on the eastbound shoulder and partially in the eastbound lane when it crashed into an oncoming semi.

The driver of the minivan, 84-year-old Cecil Gill Jr., and his passenger, 20-year-old Dwayne Scott, died in the crash.

The 50-year-old man driving the semi was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

The patrol's online crash log says Gill was from Hazel Crest, Illinois, and Scott was from St. Louis.
