WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A blast of cold has arrived in KAKEland as our next significant cold swept through the state. This change from Fall to Winter like conditions will linger through Friday.

As the front tracked to the southeast through the morning, the wind shifted from south to the north and temperatures tumbled. Temperatures in northwest Kansas have been in the low to mid 30s for most of the day. The high in Wichita was 69 degrees, and that was at 9:30 a.m. By 3 p.m., the temperature has dropped more than 20 degrees.

Western Kansas will likely experience the first hard, killing freeze of the season with morning lows Friday in the low to upper 20s. North and South Central Kansas could also experience a frost or freeze and precautions should be take to protect sensitive vegetation. The cold air will linger Friday with highs in the mid to upper 40s with decreasing clouds. A freeze will once again be possible Saturday morning across KAKEland with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.

In addition to the cold air, light rain and snow will also accompany this next big weather maker. Thursday will likely start off with some very light rain across northern KAKEland with light rain possibly mixing int with a little light snow for Northwest Kansas as temperatures drop past the freezing mark. Very light snow will be possible this evening and overnight across KAKEland but accumulation is expected to be slim to none. The flurry chances will fizzle Friday morning as the clouds head out.
