Wichita mother sentenced to nearly 20 years in toddler's death

A Wichita mother has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for the beating death of her 2-year-old son. 

A judge on Friday sentenced 24-year-old Elizabeth Woolheater to 233 months for the death of Anthony Bunn. She pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder and two counts of child abuse. 

The toddler died died two days after suffering head and face injuries at his Riverside home on May 4, 2018.

Woolheater's then-boyfriend, 26-year-old Lucas Diel, was sentenced in June to nearly 50 years for second-degree murder in the boy's death. His earliest release date is in August of 2060. 

court document states Anthony had several injuries including extensive trauma to the head, a broken nose, fractured bones, bruised ribs, eyes swollen shut and red bruising of the eyelids, bruising along the spine and swelling of the brain.

Allegations of child abuse involving Anthony were reported in October of 2017. District Attorney Marc Bennett said there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges.
