Augusta officers step in on ‘Donuts with Dad’ day so kids aren't left out

AUGUSTA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Augusta police officers made a big impact on a 7-year-old girl whose dad didn't go to "Donuts with Dad" at her school on Thursday.

Jordan Eck's daughter, Sophia, attends Ewalt Elementary School. She says Sophia has spent the last five of her live without a consistent father. Sophia, knowing it was "Donuts with Dad" day, didn't want to go to school.

"She sat there crying for a good 20 minutes. Sophia didn’t want to be there without a dad," Jordan said in a message to KAKE News.

But what they didn't know was that Augusta's finest were there to help.

"We walked in the door of the gym to uniformed officers waiting to sit with kids without dads present," Jordan said.

She says an Augusta officer walked right up to her and introduced himself. She looked up at her mom, smiled, and went to get donuts.

"THANK YOU officer....for showing up for my daughter today. For showing her that there are role model fathers/men out there who do just that. Show up. I just wanted you to know you touch more lives than you could ever imagine. From the bottom of my heart and all those little lives you impacted today unknowingly...thank you!"
