WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Wagonmasters drew hundreds of people to downtown Wichita for the 2019 Chili Cook-off.

Around 80 teams were expected to compete in the event this year. The cook-off has been a tradition in Wichita for 30 years, and the Wagonmasters took over running the event in 2005. More than $5,000 in cash and prizes were up for grabs Saturday.

"It's a community get-together where people really enjoy the atmosphere, the time, and everything they're doing together as a community," said attendee Michael King. "And really building what Wichita is all about. The people."

The Wagonmasters say the event has had renewed enthusiasm from contestants and attendees since they brought the event back to the downtown area.
