WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A stabbing in west Wichita leaves one man seriously injured.

Wichita Police officers found a 38-year-old man who had been stabbed in a parking lot near West and St. Louis just after 11 a.m. Saturday. The 38 year old had a single stab wound in his "left rib cage area," according to Wichita Police Sgt. Troy Nedbalek.

Two people were found and detained a couple of blocks east of the incident. Investigators say the stabbing may have been self-defense.

"Witnesses that had seen the altercation pointed us in the direction of the suspects," Sgt. Nedbalek said. "After detaining them, it's sounding more along the lines of, it could be, possibly, a self-defense issue."

One of the two people who were detained was arrested on unrelated warrants. Investigators say the man who was stabbed may have tried to take property from the two who were walking in that area.

The 38 year old was in critical condition and taken to a hospital for surgery. Police Officer Kevin Wheeler told KAKE News the injuries are "not life-threatening."
