Sheriff Jeff Easter said 23-year-old Alexander Whiteman was booked Friday for two counts of theft. His arrest stems from an investigation in to a theft at the Hidden Lakes Golf Course near Derby on September 5.

Whiteman is accused of taking a rangefinder from the club's Pro Shop.

Easter said the shop had video and a deputy who responded to the theft recognized Whiteman.

During the investigation into the rangefinder theft, it was discovered Whiteman also took $320 from the home of another detention deputy on September 5, Easter said.

In addition to the criminal case, an internal affairs investigation has started.

Whiteman has been employed by the sheriff's office for just over two years. He's been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
