WINFIELD, Kan. (KAKE) -

All Winfield schools were placed on lockout as police search for a fleeing suspect in the area.

USD 465 said Thursday morning on Facebook that the lockout/hold in place was precautionary and that all students are safe.

According to Winfield police, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction in the 1400 block of Bliss Street just after 8:15 a.m. The driver fled at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit was terminated in the 1400 block of John Street, and a citizen located the vehicle in the 1600 block of Pearl Street.

"The driver fled on foot and a female passenger was detained at the scene," Winfield police said in a news release.

Authorities have not yet located the driver.

Police say there's no immediate threat to the public.
