DODGE CITY, Kan. (KAKE) -

Dodge city authorities are working to figure out how a monkey from the local zoo ended up within city limits.

Dodge city PD notified Wright Park Zoo staff that a monkey had been reported found in the city limits. A quick inspection at the Capuchin Monkey exhibit determined that the animal called in was Pickett from the Wright Park Zoo troop.

Pickett was captured by animal control and returned to Zoo staff. After being inspected by veterinary staff, Pickett showed no signs of injury and was allowed to return to his enclosure.

A second animal within the enclosure was found with minor injuries and is being medically treated.

It is currently unknown how Pickett got out of his enclosure but DCPD is conducting an investigation. Additional security measures are being installed to prevent future incidents.

Anyone with information related to the incident should contact Dodge City Police Department at 620-225-8126. You can also submit an anonymous tip by texting "DCPD" and your tip to 847411
