WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

At Tuesday morning's city council meeting, Wichita council members unanimously agreed to join a federal lawsuit against opioid manufacturers and national pharmacies.

They're suing on the basis that the manufacturers and distributors cost the city money because the city ends up paying for medical fees and law enforcement costs related to opioid addiction and deaths.

The lawyers said they plan to file the case as soon as this week. They're looking at a test case in Ohio to decide what damages they can get in a larger case.

The lawsuit will not cost the city.
