WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A new Hyatt Place hotel will break ground this week on the Wichita State University's Innovation Campus.

The 106-room building will be the first hotel on campus. The hotel will be located at the southwest corner of 19th Street and Oliver.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Hyatt Place will take place Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

"I do miss my golf course that was there before, but you'd have to say that the Innovation Campus is pretty phenomenal and growing in momentum all the time, so it's pretty exciting," said Dr. James Rhatigan, who has been a staff member at WSU for 55 years and is a former Dean of Students.

This month, Braeburn Square welcomed its newest tenant, Fuzzy's Taco Shop. On August 19th, the restaurant held a grand opening, which coincided with the first day of school.

"Everything that we do at Wichita State is for students, is for enrollment," said Tracee Friess, director of communication for research and tech transfer. "Innovation Campus is here to grow the university and growing the university is getting students on campus."

In the 2019-2020 school year, the following businesses and buildings are expected to open:
• Steve Clark YMCA/WSU Student Wellness Center (January 2020)
• Hyatt Place hotel (Summer 2020)
• The Suites at WSU
• NIAR Advanced Virtual Engineering
 and Testing Laboratories (AVAT)
• Partnership Building 3
• Fuzzy’s Taco Shop
• Journey East Asian Grill
