Wichita's Bikers Awareness Ride planned for Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The first Bikers Awareness Ride will take place this Saturday morning.

It is an event to bring awareness of motorcycle riders on Wichita roads.

"Hopefully, we can get all types of bikes on this ride, to ride safe in Wichita," said Bradley Bostick, organizer of the Bikers Awareness Ride.

The ride will begin at the old Village Flea Market, by Pawnee and Meridian, and end at the Keeper of the Plains, next to Exploration Place.

The ride will go east on Pawnee, north on Rock Road, west on 21st Street, and south on McLean.

The event starts at 10 a.m. with kickstands up at 11 a.m.

The Wichita Police Department provided these statistics regarding crashes and fatalities.

2019 (through Aug 25): 16 fatal accidents (17 deaths), one involved a motorcycle; 6,571 traffic accidents, 62 involved a motorcycle

2018: 27 fatal accidents (28 deaths), nine involved a motorcycle; 10,843 traffic accidents, 97 involved a motorcycle

2017: 26 fatal accidents (26 deaths), four involved a motorcycle; 10,876 traffic accidents, 132 involved a motorcycle
