Authorities have arrested a 22-year-old man after an explosive device was found near a school in southwest Kansas this week.
The Hutch Post reports Tristen Dorch, of Garden City, is being held on $25,000 bond for criminal use of an explosive device, criminal threat and criminal damage to property.
Garden City police responded at around 8 a.m. Monday to the report of criminal damage in the 1300 block of North 8th Street. The found a suspected explosive device that was later determined to be made of fireworks.
Officers blocked off the area and notified nearby Abe Hubert Elementary School, which went under exterior lockdown during the investigation.
Police in southwest Kansas are investigating a suspicious package near an elementary school.
Garden City police said Monday on Facebook that people should stay away from 8th Street between Teitelbaum Avenue and Olive Street.
The Facebook post says the package is not deemed to be a threat or related to Abe Hubert Elementary School.
Traffic would not be allowed in the area for an extended period of time, police said. Additional information was not provided.
