1st and 10 Preview: Maize

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in a couple of seasons, Maize is taking the field without Caleb Grill as their signal caller.

Grill led the eagles to a 10-2 mark his senior season before moving on to the hardwood at Iowa State.

The Eagles have had a lot of success the past two years winning 21 years.

Outside of the graduation of Gill, Maize returns a fair amount of experience.

They have 6 starters back on offense and defense.

Maize believes they have the talent to reload, it's a matter of how their younger players respond to the bright lights.

"Every team is going to lose players," Head Coach Gary Guzman said. "You're just hoping that the younger guys can step up and get it done for you. Two years ago we lost a lot of key players especially and didn't know how the season was going to go and it ended up being a pretty good season for us. You never know. I just hope that our kids can step up and keep things going."

The Eagles kick off their season against Valley Center.
