Babycakes fans love the team, not the name

Metairie, LA -

What's in a name?  Plenty,  if you're a baseball fan in New Orleans.

"Ever since they changed the name to Babycakes it was hard to get fired up," said Bill Boesch.

"Nobody down here likes that name," said John Ingram.

The team moved to New Orleans from Denver in 1993 and was known as the Zephyrs.  That was changed to the Babycakes two years ago.   Now the Babycakes are leaving  for Wichita and fans in the stands are trying to watch the last few games of their team in action.  "I'm going to miss them," said John Vollenweider.

The Babycakes nickname isn't the only thing keeping many seats empty at the stadium.   Fans also said New Orleans residents and visitors have plenty of entertainment choices.  "There's too many other things to do around here and people don't come to a baseball game," said Debbie Primo.

Wichita is in the process of naming its baseball team.  Boesch offers this advice.  "Choose wisely."
