Man electrocuted at oil well in Barber County

KIOWA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Former classmates are raising money for the family of a man who was electrocuted at an oil well in southern Kansas.

According to his obituary, 48-year-old Cecil New died Monday. Emergency crews responded at around 9:15 that morning to a possible electrocution at an oil well near Northstar and Scott Canyon roads, which is north of Kiowa.

The Barber County Sheriff's Office says units arrived on scene to find the man unresponsive. Additional information about the incident was not released. 

New, of Kingman, leaves behind a wife and two sons. Click here for funeral information.

A GoFundMe organized on behalf of New's high school class of 1990 has raised $6,100 for a floral tribute and for his family.
