A 23-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son at a Wichita motel earlier this year.

Kimberly Compass was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of Zayden Jaynesahkluah. He was found dead May 31 at the Sunset Motel at 2328 South Broadway where he lived with his mother.

Compass, who was arrested last Thursday, remains jailed on $500,000 bond for the murder charge and $1 million bond for a probation violation. Her next court date was scheduled for September 5.

Wichita police spokesperson Charley Davidson said last week that new information from the Regional Forensic Science Center led to the arrest. Additional information about the investigation has not been released.

According to the Associated Press, State Rep. Michael Capps, a Wichita Republican, said when the boy died that state welfare officials had previous contact with Zayden's family.
