NEWTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

Ballots have been mailed for bond issue elections in USD 373 Newton.

Voters will decide two questions.  The first relates to updates at Newton High School, security improvements at Chisholm Middle School and elementary schools.   Deferred maintenance at Santa Fe, Chisholm and all elementary schools is included in the $61,320,000 proposal.

The second proposal would be for building a new K-6 school south of Newton.  The school would cost $24,420,000.

If both bond proposals passed, the owner of a home valued at $100,000 would see their taxes increase by $125 a year.

Business owners would see a $273 annual tax increase.
