TULSA, Okla. (KAKE) -

A 12-year-old boy from Tulsa, Oklahoma is being hailed a hero after he broke into a hot car and saved a toddler.

KOKI reports the incident happened Monday afternoon at a local shopping center. A woman told the Tulsa Fox station that she and her son were walking into a store when they saw a crying 2-year-old boy inside a locked car.

She said her 12-year-old son used a ratchet strap from her car and part of a clothes rack from a store to break the car's windshield and crawled inside to get the boy out.

Police told KOKI the toddler was red-faced and in distress, but he was otherwise OK

Officers located the boy's mom inside and store. She told them she thought there was another adult in the car when she got out.

Police gave her a $250 ticket. The state Department of Human Services will investigate.
