A KAKE News reporter and another witness were injured after a man fled from the Sedgwick County Jail.

The incident happened just before 4 p.m. Friday at the jail located at 141 West Elm Street as Reporter Morgan Mobley and a photojournalist were working on a story for the 6:00 news.

The sheriff's office says 28-year-old Victor Walker was in the jail lobby when deputies discovered he had an active warrant for his arrest. Walker was handcuffed but fled the lobby as a deputy was confiscating property off his person.

Walker fled and pushed the front door open, hitting Mobley who was about to enter the jail and injuring another bystander.

"I feel like I blinked my eyes and I find myself pinned up against this wall, this man who's handcuffed was barreling through," she said.

Mobley was hit repeatedly by the jail's door as the suspect and then deputies barreled through the crowd. She was closest to the door and tried to get away but was pinned against a wall.

"I was repeatedly being slammed on, my head is what was hit the hardest," Mobley said. "It seems like an eternity but also just a couple seconds."

Photojournalist Matt Crow saw the whole thing.

"I got pushed against a wall and then I saw a man in handcuffs," he said. "Handcuffed behind his back, pushing with his shoulders to get through the crowd."

Another woman was hurt when the photojournalist's camera was knocked out of his hand and landed on her foot. She told KAKE News she'd planned to go see a doctor Friday night.

Walker then got into a black Chevy Camaro, which ran over a Sheriff's Office Sergeant's foot and hit three parked cars as it fled. The chase ended near Kellogg and Oliver after the vehicle struck two more vehicles and crashed into the northeast traffic signal. Three people, including Walker were taken into custody.

Walker appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with eight counts of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, interference with law enforcement, criminal damage to property, and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $100,000.

Charles L. Patton II, 37, was in the front passenger seat of the Camaro and booked for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated assault, felony obstruct, aiding escape and felony evade and elude.

Camille L. Hollands, 38, was in the rear seat and booked for possession of marijuana.

The investigation is ongoing.
