Longwell, Whipple advance in Wichita Mayor's race

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Jeff Longwell will get a chance to run for another term as Wichita's Mayor.

The current Mayor was the top vote getter in Tuesday's primary election with 7136 votes.    Brandon Whipple finished second with 5729,  followed by Lyndy Wells with 5569.   

Longwell and Whipple will face off in the November 5th general election.  

There was only one other contested race in Sedgwick County Tuesday night.   Joseph Shepard and Sheril Logan advanced in the Wichita USD 259 at large race.  

In Reno County,  David Inskeep and Sara Bagwell advance in Hutchinson City Council at large position,  while Steven Dechant and Steven Garza advance in the Council's Southeast District.  

Stephen Coulter and Kevin Lawrence advance in the race for Eureka's mayor.

The most crowded race of the evening was for Sterling USD 376 school board.  Eight of 14 candidates advanced to the general election.  William Kilgore was the top vote getter.
