Woman dies after crashing into semi near Eureka

EUREKA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a 50-year-old has died after their car crashed into a semi near Eureka. 

Troopers responded just before 4 p.m. Tuesday the the report of a fatality accident on U.S. 54 at milepost 284. The patrol says a car heading east in the outside lane and tried to pass a tractor-trailer as the outside lane was coming to an end. 

The car went onto the shoulder and then went sideways and back in front of the semi before crossing into oncoming traffic and was struck by a westbound semi. 

The car's driver, identified as Anita Lucy of Salem, Arkansas, died at the scene. The driver of the semi was not hurt. 

The highway was closed from the east Eureka city limit to K-99 for several hours.
