PHILLIPSBURG, Kan. (KAKE) -

Ranchers in northern Kansas say they're heartbroken and overwhelmed after nine of their sheep were shot and killed.

Shane Mongeau says they found four shot Friday evening and five more the next morning in Glade, which is in Phillips County. His fiance, Hannah Imm, said on Facebook that the sheep that were killed include pregnant ewes, lambs and rams.

"Yes, we are upset by the loss of income from these animals..but more than that, we are heartbroken," Hannah's post says. "Our sheep are tame. Many of our sheep are like pets with names and personality quirks. Our animals that survived this attack are traumatized, and understandably so. Each life matters to us and this is unacceptable."

Hannah said she hopes the community will assist in the search for whomever is responsible. A reward will be given for information leading to an arrest, but she didn't specify on the amount.

Phillips County Sheriff Charles Radabaugh said the incident is still under investigation. If you have information, you can reach the sheriff's office at (785) 543-6885.

Hannah said Shane and his father operate a farm and ranch of about 150 animals.
