Cowley County man arrested for attempted murder, use of an explosive

WINFIELD, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Winfield man has been arrested for attempted murder after he placed a "suspicious" device in a camper.

On Thursday just after 9 a.m., a woman at the Winfield Fairgrounds notified police that she had found "suspicious items" in her camper. 

Winfield police conducted an investigation which confirmed that the items were a possible safety hazard. The camper and surrounding area were secured as technicians with KHP and the Wichita Police Bomb Squad were contacted to evaluate the items.

The suspicious items were found and "made safe." No injuries were reported and no Cowley County Fair attendees were in danger. 

Robin F. Hood was arrested Thursday evening and held on a $200,000 bond for Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted Aggravated Arson and Criminal Us of an Explosive. Hood's residence was also searched near Atlanta, Kansas.

Authorities are investigating after a suspicious device was found at the fairgrounds in Winfield on Thursday. 

The device was found at around 9 a.m. by a camper at the Pecan Grove. Law enforcement evacuated several campers, and the Wichita Police Department bomb squad was called in to assist. 

Police at the scene said they don't believe anyone in the area is in danger. Campers were allowed back in the area Thursday afternoon.
