EMPORIA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say two teenagers accused of impersonating a police officer to stop drivers have turned themselves in.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Thursday morning that 18-year-old Joseph Hawes and an unnamed 17-year-old, both of Emporia, identified themselves as the ones responsible. Formal charges are pending.

According to the sheriff's office, a silver car using red and blue lights pulled over two vehicles on K-99 between Emporia and Olpe early Wednesday morning.

"After the vehicles pulled over the suspect vehicle drove around them and then left the area... The suspect/s did not make contact with the occupants of the vehicles."

The sheriff's office says if you are being pulled over and "something doesn't feel right," call 911 immediately.
