Wichita Police Department officers are reminding drivers and riders to share the road.

Officer Roger Bieberle has been riding motorcycles for years.

He often experiences what is wrong on Wichita roads.

"We have what you would call a near miss pretty much everyday. People are always turning left in front of you. They don't see you because you're a much smaller vehicle," said Bieberle, who has served in the department for 29 years.

He has given multiple citations to drivers who are texting while driving.

"The biggest thing is probably people texting and driving. Tons of it, tons of it. We get people, you see them looking down for blocks at a time. They never even look up," he said. "That's probably the most dangerous thing. It seems to cause more accidents than anything."

In the last week, there are have been several accidents that have seriously hurt motorcycle riders, including a fatal crash on I-235.

Bieberle offers this message on safety.

"Slow down, watch your speeds, leave early, be considerate of other drivers, patience, patience out there."
