Two killed in crash near Chanute

A vehicle swerving to avoid an animal led to two deaths in southeast Kansas.

State troopers stated an SUV was heading north on K39, about 15 miles west of Chanute in Wilson County, just before 11 p.m. Saturday. The driver swerved, and the SUV rolled into a ditch, throwing three passengers from the vehicle. Troopers stated they had not been wearing seat belts.

Two of the passengers died, and a 14-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The passengers who died have been identified as 35-year-old Ronald A. Hudson from Thayer, Kansas, and 15-year-old Malachi Hill from Chanute.

The 38-year-old driver, who was wearing her seat belt, was also taken to a hospital in serious condition.
