Heat causes road to buckle in Hays

HAYS, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police in Hays say a road bucked in the afternoon heat on Tuesday.

The department said on Facebook that both directions of 22nd Street between Douglas Drive and Canterbury Drive will be closed until further notice. The temperature in Hays at 5 p.m. was 97 degrees with a heat index over 100. 

Hays and Ellis County are not yet included in an Excessive Heat Warning that goes into effect Wednesday afternoon through Saturday evening.
