WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Officers with the Wichita Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the city this weekend.

Police spokesperson Charley Davidson did not say where the checkpoint will be held, only that it will begin at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, and run until 2:30 a.m. the following morning.

Officers will briefly stop drivers to check their driver's licenses, insurance and seat belt usage, Officer Davidson said. Those suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be detained for further evaluation.

Officer Davidson anticipates that the average motorist will not experience any excessive delay in the checkpoint.

The checkpoint is coordinated and worked in partnership with the Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Sedgwick County Emergency Management and the DUI Victim Center of Kansas.
