ON YOUR SIDE GETS ANSWERS: Renters' rights and Kansas benefits

Posted: Updated:

Each week, we invite viewers to ask us even the smallest questions about technology, culture, your neighborhood, or even renters' rights.

That's the subject of a question coming to KAKE News this week from Charles, in Wichita.

He asked where he could find a renters' rights guide.

Charles, you can download a Kansas Renter's Rights handbook at kansaslegalservices.org.

It covers deposits, evictions and renters insurance.

If you're a renter, it's important you know your rights.

And if you're a landlord, there is information about your rights, too.

Another KAKE viewer e-mailed to show us a mailer, concerning benefits for Kansans.

He wanted to know if it was a scam.

Technically, it's not a scam, but the Better Business Bureau says it's deceptive, and here's why:

  1. You should never give personal information to someone you don't know
  2. Responding to a mailer may be giving telemarketers permission to contact you
  3. Free offers are often ploys to get your personal information
