Wichita police arrest teen for carjacking at Towne East, gas station robbery

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita police have arrested a 15-year-old boy for allegedly carjacking an 82-year-old man at Towne East Square and holding up a convenience store the next morning.

Officer Kevin Wheeler said the teen was booked into juvenile detention for two counts of aggravated robbery. Police allege he approached an elderly man in the Towne East parking lot, pushed him down and took his keys Thursday morning. He ran off but returned a short time later and took the man's Ford pickup, which was later recovered. 

Wheeler said the boy is also accused of robbing a Circle K in the 1200 block of South Rock Road at around 12:45 a.m. Friday. He asked for a cigar and when the clerk turned around to get one, the boy allegedly pulled a knife and demanded money. 

He and a teenage girl with him fled with cash and the cigar. The girl has not been located,.

Wichita police say they're searching for a suspect who carjacked an 82-year-old man in the parking lot of Towne East Square.

Officers responded at around 8:50 a.m. Thursday to a carjacking at the mall at Kellogg and Rock Road. The 82-year-old victim told police he was leaving the mall with keys in hand when the suspect approached and demanded them. 

Police spokesperson Kevin Wheeler said the victim refused and the suspect pushed him down, took the keys and ran off. The victim was not seriously hurt. 

The suspect returned a short time later and drove off in the man's red 2012 Ford F-150. 

Officer Wheeler said the pickup was later recovered, but the suspect has not been located. He was described as a white man in his 20s standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 150 pounds. He has brown hair and wore a black tank top, plaid shorts and black socks.
