Authorities say a 44-year-old man wanted for the alleged rape of a child in Kansas has been arrested in New Mexico.

Dodge City police said on Facebook that Jeremy Jason Jacquez was taken into custody Tuesday on suspicion of child rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14.

Police were notified Friday of a sexual abuse case involving a young girl.

"Detectives moved quickly to investigate the allegations but by the time they attempted to locate the suspect the same day, he was nowhere to be found," Dodge City PD's post says.

An arrest warrant for Jacquez was issued on Tuesday, and detectives developed a lead on his location in Alamogordo, in southern New Mexico, that night. Authorities then contacted police there for assistance.

"The Alamogordo Police Department responded immediately and through a relentless multi-hour effort were able to capture Mr. Jacquez last night."

Dodge City Police Chief Drew Francis thanked the Alamogordo Police Department for their help.
