Lengthy standoff ends in South Wichita

A standoff that lasted for hours has come to a peaceful end in South Wichita, Police said

  Officers were called to the report of a suicidal man with a gun in the 200 block of West 58th South before 8:00 a.m.   An 87-year-old man was pointing a gun at himself and officers.    Police communicated with the man throughout the day,  but, by afternoon,  talks had failed.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. , the SWAT team and a police dog entered the home.   The man was placed in custody and taken to a hospital for treatment of wounds from the dog.   

Some nearby homes have been evacuated.
