Wichita man killed, woman hurt in motorcycle crash

WINFIELD, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a Wichita man has died and a woman is hospitalized following a motorcycle crash in Cowley County. 

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. on Highway 77 near Strother Field, which is between Winfield and Arkansas City. The CourierTraveler reports a Yamaha motorcycle driven by 57-year-old Donald Cage was heading north when the front tire failed. Cage and his passenger, Rebecca Cage, were thrown from the motorcycle. 

The two were taken to South Central Kansas Medical Center where Donald died. Rebecca was in serious condition, according to KSOK.

Authorities at the scene said when the tire blew out, Donald lost control going about 70 mph, the highway’s posted legal speed limit.

The motorcyclist driving in front of them told law enforcement he saw the motorcycle out of control in his rearview mirror and stopped to help.
