KAKE On Your Side helps WSU legend beat contractor fraud

Posted: Updated:

A Wichita State basketball legend, Cleo Littleton, paid for his roof to be repaired almost a year ago, but workers never showed up.

"When he told me about it, I said it's time for action Cleo. Let's get it done," says his friend, Robert Powers.

Powers says it all started when his 86-year-old friend hired a local contractor to repair his roof in July of 2018. Littleton paid more than $2,000 for the job, but it was never completed.

"We're not spring chickens and you can't just walk on people in their 70s and 80s," says Powers.

Littleton tried everything to get his money back, from sending letters to the Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau, to continuing to contact the contractor. That's when Powers called Kake News On Your Side and we called the contractor.

He says, "I had a sales guy that went kind of rogue on me and started doing falsified contracts to individuals, taking deposits."

The contractor says he's known about the situation for about six months.

"If I knew that he was gonna call the news station, I would have taken care of it no problem," he said.

The contractor did return the full $2,500 to Littleton, but he still needs a new roof.
