WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Sunday night, country music star Granger Smith performed at Riverfest and ahead of his show, KAKE News got an exclusive sit down interview with him.

Smith has released 7 studio albums, played in 10 countries, 3 continents, even the white house a few times, and he still can't believe it all started with a few guitar chords.

He's been busy on the road lately, but he was very happy to be here in Kansas today.

"We love Wichita. This is my first time playing a street festival like this right on the river. We've been here all day been walking around, the weather has been awesome," said Smith

We asked the country music star what he enjoys most about Riverfest and of course, it was the food. He even listed off everything he ate today, including not just one, but two funnel cakes. As good as the food was, he says the people here are even better.

"I love Kansas people. We're from Texas and Kansas was one of the first states outside of my home state that accepted my music early on. They're still some of my favorite fans," said Smith.

Smith's next stop is the CMT awards this Wednesday in Nashville.
