3 lions from South Africa are coming to Tanganyika

GODDARD, Kan. (KAKE) -

Three young African lions are the newest members of Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard.

The park said in a news release Friday that the two females and one male are traveling all the way from a facility in South Africa and are set to arrive at the Park on Saturday. All three lions are 2-3 years old.

"Tanganyika has almost every rare big cat species represented at the park—from cheetahs to white tigers to snow leopards and more, but this is the first time in their history they have had their own lions," the release said. "In 2010, Tanganyika briefly rescued the entire big cat collection, including two lions, from Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, ND after a flood forced evacuation of the entire zoo."

The lions will not be on public display for quite some time, Tanganyika said. But  guests will have an exclusive chance to see the new lions at the Twilight Tour, Tanganyika’s annual fundraising event the evening of Saturday, June 15.
