Flamingo spotted in Texas again 14 years after escaping Sedgwick County Zoo

Posted: Updated:

A flamingo that flew away from the Sedgwick County Zoo 14 years ago is alive and well and again hanging out on the Texas coast.

Texas Parks and Wildlife posted a picture of the bird from Lavaca Bay, south of Houston, last Thursday. It's the same area where the flamingo was spotted in 2013 and 2018. The bird, nicknamed No. 492, makes an appearance every few years in Texas

Two African flamingos made their escape by flying away from the Sedgwick County Zoo in 2005. Wildlife workers have been able to identify the flamingo by its number 492 band on its leg.
