A young girl told Wichita police she was playing hide and seek when she was kidnapped by a registered sex offender.

A probable cause affidavit in the case against Daniel Withrow was released Tuesday. Withrow is charged with kidnapping and attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child in the incident at the White Glove Motel on West Kellogg.

The 8-year-old girl told officers she was playing "hide and seek" with her cousin when Withrow approached them from a line of trees. The girl said Withrow told the girls they should split up.

When they did split up, the girl said Withrow put his hand over her mouth and said "don't say anything" as he took her toward a shed. The girl told investigators Withrow touched her stomach under her shirt and tried to pull her pants down.

Withrow told police he was in the trees because he stopped to urinate while mowing at a nearby cemetery. He admitted approaching the girls and putting his hand over one of the girl's mouths because he was afraid they would tell someone that she saw him urinating. He denied touching the girl's stomach or trying to pull down her pants.

Withrow remains in the Sedgwick County Jail.
