Police identify victim, suspect in southeast Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita police say a disturbance let to the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened at around 4:20 p.m. outside of a home in the 1500 block of South Parkwood Lane, near Harry and Edgemoor. Officers arrived on scene to find Dieuvent Mpirwa dead of a gunshot wound. 

Police arrested 24-year-old Noah Kanyizere and booked him for first-degree murder. He remained held on $100,000 bond Monday morning. 

Capt. Brent Allred said the two were involved in a disturbance outside and Kanyizere pulled a handgun and fired, striking Mpirwa. He said the victim and suspect knew each other. 

Investigators don't believe the shooting was gang-related. 

Mpirwa's death was Wichita's 11th criminal homicide of 2019. The investigation is ongoing.
