BRANSON, Mo. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 13-year-old Kansas boy has died and four others were injured in a crash in southwest Missouri.

It happened just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 76 west of Branson. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the driver of a Dodge minivan slowed to make a left turn and was rear-ended by a Toyota pickup.

WDAF reports 13-year-old Ace Garate, of Emporia, was a passenger in the minivan and was taken to a hospital where he later died. The patrol says he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the minivan and three other passengers were hospitalized with minor injuries. The pickup driver was not hurt.

Garate was a seventh-grader at Emporia Middle School. Community members gathered Wednesday night for a prayer vigil at 12th Avenue Baptist Church, the Emporia Gazette reports.
