WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Wichita Thunder hired Bruce Ramsay on Wednesday, making him the 14th coach in franchise history.

Ramsay takes over for Malcolm Cameron who was in charge for three seasons and made the playoffs once.

Ramsay already knows his way around town, he played for the Thunder back in 2000, and his daughter was born in Wichita 18 years ago.

"I see a few people out here that do remember me as a player," said Ramsay. "I really enjoyed my time here. Just to be familiar with the city and familiar with the people around, it does make things a lot easier. Like I said, I'm so excited to be here."

The Ontario native has made the playoffs in eight of his 11 seasons as the head coach, the most recent being with the Tulsa Oilers.

"I want this team to do well and I just believe with the city in general, with the rink, fan support and the ownership group, this gives me...because personally I want to do well myself, and I want to win and I want to have a chance to win a championship. To me, this city gives me one of the best opportunities to do that," said Ramsay.
