OTTAWA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A mother and her two children have died after their car crashed on a stretch of I-35 in eastern Kansas.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office tells WDAF that 25-year-old Brieyori McGowan and her children, 6-year-old Kamarria Williams and 7-year-old Nahajza Jackson, died at the scene of Tuesday morning's crash.

The crash happened at around 9 a.m. on I-35 near Florida Road, which is southwest of Ottawa. The sheriff's office says McGowan was heading north when her vehicle went off the right side of the road. She overcorrected, drove through the median and into oncoming traffic. A southbound car hit the side McGowan's vehicle.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment. Two dogs were taken to a local shelter until the driver is released.

The mother and kids who died in the crash were from Texas. It wasn't immediately clear what caused McGowan's vehicle to go off the roadway.

It was the second fatality accident in Franklin County on Tuesday. Earlier that morning, a 47-year-old man was killed when his pickup crashed into a semi that had jackknifed while trying to avoid hitting a deer.
