Carnival, Princess, Disney, Norwegian – these are all famous cruise lines that offer a Hawaiian cruise.
If you’ve been dying to see the farthest away US state, then you should grab your tickets and get ready to set sail.
But before you board the boat, you need to pack – and not forget these often overlooked things. We’ll tell you what those are below.
1. A Waterproof Phone Case
Whether you’re on the island or on the boat, you’ll have your phone with you. And whether it’s the boat’s signature slushy margaritas on some rough seas or you’re going snorkeling – you want to protect your phone.
They make waterproof cases for phones of all sizes and types, that let you use it with wet fingers and even while you’re in the water.
Some people use them to take pictures underwater, but the layers of plastic can get in the way of a clear shot. You’re better off getting a specific camera for underwater pictures.
While you’re at it, you need a float for that case as well. These floats are little things that attach to the bag and sometimes go around your wrist. They’ll keep your phone afloat if you drop it in the water.
Imagine if you were snorkeling and dropped the phone all the way down. It’s gone – you’re not going to kill the coral to get your phone back.
2. Water Shoes
Hawaii is an island made up of lava stone – which isn’t gentle on your feet. But it also has sand, lots of water, and mud – which can get in your shoes.
Instead of wearing muddy shoes you’re going to feel slushy in all day, get some water hoes, that are breathable and that will rise off easily in the ocean after a hike.
Yes, you’ll probably get some sand in your shoes, but it’ll be a lot easier to get out than if you were wearing something like converse.
3. Safe Sunscreen
Obviously, you’ll need to bring sunscreen to Hawaii with you, or you’ll be very unhappy and red. But some sunscreens contain oxybenzone and that can break down coral reefs.
Want to go swimming with sea turtles? That chemical gets into the water while you’re swimming with them, and breaks down their shell/hurt them over time.
You can do a quick Google search for “reef safe sunscreen” and buy from those results. Soon, if the local government gets its way, unsafe sunscreens will be banned from on-island stores anyways.
If you’ve always wanted to go on a Hawaii cruise, please be mindful of the ecosystems so that people can continue to enjoy the beauty in the future.
Your Hawaiian Cruise Packing List
Obviously, you’ll need to pack more than three things for your cruise, but these are things people often don’t think of or forget.
Kudos to you, for planning ahead – now you’ll not only know to bring these things on a Hawaiian cruise but (hopefully) you won’t forget them either!
