Wichita Police Lieutenant on leave after firing shots at car

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Wichita Police Lieutenant has been placed on leave after firing his gun during a police call Monday.   The incident happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Harry.   

Officers spotted two women in a car.   When one of the officers shined a flashlight on the car,  the woman in the driver's seat pointed a handgun at the officer.  The officer fired two shots, hitting the car.  No one was injured.

Police arrested Katie Evans, 30, for aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, felon in possession of a firearm and outstanding warrants.  The other woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

The officer involved has been on the force for 23 years.  He's been placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
